One of the staples of science fiction are cat-like (or doglike, etc.) aliens. It seems to me that such a creature would, at best, bear a passing resemblence to terestrial critters, while having a radiaclly different anatomy. It's also an experiemtn with a looser, more painterly style, influenced by the work of John Shoenherr. Photoshop.

This piece appeared in Huzzah a few years ago. I had seen a slow loris in a book on mammals, and thought it just begged to be anthropomorphized. I'm suprised more people don't do them. Inked with a brush on 2-ply Strathmore bristol.

I was at Con-Version last weekend, a SF con here in Calgary. J. Michael Straczynski was the Guest of Honour, so there was a lot of Babylon 5 material around, and it inspired this pic of Pi in a B5 security uniform. Con-Version is also the home of Ye Olde Nazgul Tavern, who's specialty is a drink called "Zaibatsu Tears", which I borrowed, with the owners' permission, for the name of the comic. Most Tolkein fans are pretty decent people, but, as with anything, there are always a few who are just wee bit too territorial about the object of their passion. For those that are intersted, the critter is based on a tarsier. Photoshop.
