Oh my gosh I've actually scanned something to be uploaded for once in what, like a year?? Well, I'm back to work on the comic after a break. here's a preview. (C) Shawntae Howard DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE.

Ex14_p02 ex14_p02.jpg   Shawntae Howard (Tamar the Ebony Leopard)   08/23/2004   362x560

I've changed the way I draw my pink weasle, CeeCee, actually now giving her head hair. I'm also intentionally trying to flesh out the their world by spending more time on backgrounds. Coming up with universal devices like phones for anthros isn't easy. (C) Shawntae Howard 2004 (Ink assist on Pandora by Ken Singshow)

I really wish this one was a little bigger, cause I personally love the facial expression I give CeeCee in panel one. The look of contempt is priceless. Anyway, nothing like living in a household with housemates with powers. (Last preview, wanna see more join one of the yahoo groups). (C) Shawntae Howard.

Bloodhound Omega ver. IV: the 4th of 4 pics I did for his creator. I drew what I saw in my mind's eye when I envisioned the character, and didn't worry about trying so hard to be realistic. All anatomy, details based on Bloodi's decription. Overall I tried to make it look sort of like a "sketch come to life", and left some of the sketchiness in on purpose.

When I'm feeling under the weather, drawing one of my skull-demons usually cheers me up (or gives me something else to think about, at least). While stuck in traffic (I carpooled with my husband) I drew one on the back of a leftover invitation-card. At work the next day I added in a bit of shading in Photoshop CS.

Syn-obsydian syn-obsydian.jpg   S. M. Bittler (Synnabar)   08/23/2004   545x717

For Obsydian. Look, I used a reference! - sort of (soon I got bored and did my own thing). I learned a lot about feathers - too late to save the neck feathers, but the wings aren't completely horrible. Watercolor, gouache, knotwork added in Photoshop CS.

Syn-shaktiavatar syn-shaktiavatar.jpg   S. M. Bittler (Synnabar)   08/23/2004   517x676

Here is my Avatar/shakti, looking very stylized (w/symbolic wings, etc.). I DO like to draw & see finished art, but I don't ALWAYS want or need to do smooth, detailed pieces myself. There are times when I WANT to draw dark and rough and scribbly, both because it helps set a mood, and because it just feels good to move the pencil around like that. Incidentally, I got married last Fall (why my last name changed). :)

Syn-svdragoncat syn-svdragoncat.jpg   S. M. Bittler (Synnabar)   08/23/2004   466x684

Gift art for Sevian Rei. I loved his dragon-cat Irago, but when I sat down to do this my hand & mind wandered and I ended up with something different. I USED to paint slowly and carefully, but lately I don't feel like being so worried about each and every brushmark (partly because of lack of time - I only have an hour or two a day for art, if I'm LUCKY), so I worked the whole thing quickly, all at once instead of concentrating on any one area. Pen, watercolor, gouache, bit of colored pencil.
