A couple of months ago, AltarSkunk sent me a keyring with a plush version of himself on it. This made me wonder how he modeled for the thing. This piece unintentionally inspired by Joe "AltarSkunk" Kennedy. AltarSkunk is ©; to Joe, which I forgot to write on the art.

It's been too long since I uploaded any art, so I might as well start with something that I did fairly recently. This is a picture of Redstripe and Bluestripe, two chakats who are intended mates, taking a holiday at the Grand Canyon. Neither is naturally all black-furred, but have dyed their fur for their job, and their names reflect their identification marks. This was a commission done for Bluestripe.

My Christmas e-card for 2000. For me, Christmas is for the cubs! Every year, millions of children try to stay up late, wanting to see Santa when he arrives, and every year all these children fall asleep before the jolly gent arrives. Chakat cubs are no different and Santa has left this cub's present right under hir nose without disturbing hir... or has he? That happy smile on hir face seems to show that shi knows that something special has happened.

"Happy Birthday, Goldfur!" Celebrating the second anniversary of the creation of the chakat species.

My second blind date piece. A pretty skunk lass has decided to try a blind date to find a boyfriend. I think she has just hit the jackpot. Idea suggested by Joe "Altarskunk" Kennedy (Mephitis@ix.netcom.com)

Unusual pairings occur when furries go on blind dates. Somehow though, I think these two will hit it off.

This is Blue of the Fornax sisters. Here she is in the intensive care unit after an operation that was barely in time to save her life. Done as an illustration for Matt McCullar's story: "You Don't Believe".

My Christmas card image for this year has the theme of the preciousness of relationships between family and friends.

"Cabin Fox" A vixen enjoys just lounging around her country cabin. This picture was an exercise in background detail.

A Caitian in a regulation Star Fleet uniform, jumpsuit style. No boots for this species, of course! The badge was done with metallic gold ink, and scanned really badly. This is a coloured version of an earlier B&W pic.

It's well known that Caitians are members of the Federation, but how often do you see one? Here's my first try at drawing a Caitian Starfleet officer in a ST-DS9 style uniform (slightly modified). I liked the way she came out except for the muzzle which I thought was a bit large.

A young vixen full of the joy of life, runs around in carefree exuberance, enjoying the sun on her face and wind in her fur.

A chakat built and patterned like a cheetah, goes hunting for hir meal armed only with speed and bolas. I'm extremely pleased with this picture. I found this beautiful photo of a cheetah and knew that I *had* to make it into a chakat. I want to show that chakats come in different builds as well as many patterns, and the cheetah has a very distinctive build. It's still not easy turning a natural animal into a taur. Unlike most chakats, this one doesn't have human type hair, so I got to show a very natural looking head. The mane and the spots came out wonderfully. Slightly censored for Yerf.

This youngster is caught between a snake and a lake. It's possible that a dip can be avoided though. That snake looks more like a sock-puppet to me!

When you live on a different continent, sometimes you get the time zones mixed-up. This is the result of one call I made. I did this quickie sketch by way of apology.

I'm very proud of this picture. The two foxtaurs are mates. The black is DanTaur, the red is CassiTaur and they are © their respective players. The colouring is a mixture of Tria marker, coloured pencils and Photoshop. I made a couple of mistakes and I hope to have another go at it, but even so, it is possibly my best ever picture.

"The One You Didn't See". A commissioned drawing of a lioness throwing rocks at a man-eating plant. Unfortunately, she didn't see the one that popped up behind her!

A squire, while raiding a dragon's hoard with his comrades, is forced to confront the owner by himself. Characters are from the story, "In The Dragon's Lair" by Will Sanborn and are ©; 1997 to him.

"Desperate Reach." A foxtaur cub, caught in rapids, desperately reaches for a rescuer's hand. An illustration for my story, <I>A Forest Tale #5: Recreation</I> which can be found on my website.

"Examination Surprise". Second illustration for the Rrakith First-Contact story. The doctors of each species are about to discover some very big differences between them.

Normally it takes me a lot of time to pencil a character, and even more time to ink it satisfactorily. While at a convention in New Zealand, I decided to try to complete a picture in under an hour. The result isn't sophisticated, but it was fast!

It's been a couple of months since I uploaded any chakat art, so here's a couple to keep you amused! Here a chakat discovers a new friend... a Pernese fire-lizard! Okay, so they're from different universes, but wouldn't it be nice? Art © 2000 Bernard Doove.
